Part 1 - Follow Your Passion

बिझनेस करताना खूप अनुभव येतात आणि त्यातून आपण शिकत जातो.दर काही दिवसांनी मला आलेले अनुभव आणि त्यातून घेतलेला धडा मी तुमच्यासमोर आणेन. पुढच्यास ठेच मागचा शहाणा


ह्या वेळेस थोडीशी पार्श्वभूमी. शिक्षणानंतर बहुराष्ट्रीय कंपनी मध्ये नोकरी मिळाली. लग्न ठरल्यावर लगेच सोडली सुद्धा. मला त्या वेळेस सगळ्यांनी वेड्यात काढले असे कसे करू शकतेस. इकडचे बॉस सुद्धा तुला US ब्रांच मध्ये देतो नोकरी म्हणाले. पण मी ठाम होते नोकरी सोडण्यावर. लग्न झाल्यावर लगेचच US वारी झाली. पण मन रमले नाही आणि माझ्या भावनांचा आदर करून नवऱ्याने भारतात परतायचा निर्णय घेतला. नंतर लगेच मोठ्या मुलाचा जन्म २००२ मधला. त्याचे करण्यात सगळा वेळ जायचा. पण जसा तो शाळेत जायला लागला तसे जाणवले की आताच इतका वेळ मिळतोय तर अजून २० वर्षांनी तर मग मी काय करणार? नोकरी करायची नाही हे तर ठरवलेच होते.

मग वेळ घालवायला म्हणून सोसायटी मधल्या मैत्रिणीकडे दागिने बनवण्याचा दोन दिवसांचा कोर्स केला. सुरुवातीला छोटे छोटे सेट्स बनवायचे आणि वाढदिवसाला वगैरे मैत्रिणींना गिफ्ट द्यायचे. एका मैत्रिणीला तो गिफ्ट म्हणून दिला आणि तीच वेळ माझ्यासाठी टर्निंग पॉईंट ठरली. मैत्रिणीला सेट आवडला आणि तिला स्वतःला आणि गिफ्टिंग ला सेट्स हवेत म्हणाली. मी तसेच करून देणार होते. पण ऐकतात त्या मैत्रिणी कसल्या .
हो नाही करता करता शेवटी मी तिला विकायला तयार झाले. थोडेच दिवसात तिच्या बिल्डिंग मधून ऑर्डर्स यायला लागल्या. आणि मी self employed झाले!!!
दोन वर्षें मी बिड्स चे दागिने करत होते. पण लक्षात आले की ह्याच्यात तितकेसे मन रमत नाहीये. काहीतरी क्रिएटिव्ह केले पाहिजे. अश्यातच माझ्या वहिनीने केलेला क्रोशा आठवला. मग YouTube वर बघून वेगवेगळे टाके शिकले आणि पर्सेस कराव्याश्या वाटल्या. खूप पर्सेस केल्या गिफ्टिंग साठी. एकीकडे बिड्सचे दागिने चालू होते पण समाधान पर्सेस मधून जास्त मिळत होते. अश्यातच पर्सेस च्या ऑर्डर्स चालू झाल्या. त्यावर मी छोटी क्रोशाची फुले करून लावायचे. त्यावरून मला लहान मुलींसाठी हेअरबँड ची कल्पना सुचली. मग tictac clips केल्या. असे करत करत लहान मुलींसाठी पूर्ण सेट बनवायला लागले. तोपर्यंत त्यांच्या आयांचे चालू झाले हे वेगळे आहे आमच्या साठी पण काहीतरी बनव की!! आणि तिथून क्रोशाच्या दागिन्यांची सुरुवात झाली.

Being in business gives us a wide range of experiences and each experience is a learning point. Every few days, I will try to present my experiences and my learning from them. Hopefully, this will provide some benefit to the readers, without having to undergo the same experiences!



A bit of background. I got a job in a multi-national company right after finishing my education. But I quit that once my marriage was finalised. Everybody around me was surprised by my decision. My boss also offered me an opportunity in the US branch of the company. But I was firm on quitting my job. We travelled to the US immediately after marriage. However, I did not like it there and my husband respected my feelings and agreed to return home. Soon after, my elder son was born in 2002. Looking after him took up nearly all my time. Once he started school, I realised that I had a lot of free time now, and this will go up drastically 20 years down the line. I had already decided that I would not go back to a 9-to-5 job. In order to utilise my time, I attended a 2-day jewellery making course conducted by my friend in our society.

I started with small jewellery sets and gifted them to my friends on birthdays and other occasions. One of my close friends liked the set a lot and asked for more sets for herself and for gifting. This was a turning point for me. My initial plan was to give the sets to her at no cost. As between good friends, she disagreed strongly with this plan and insisted that I should sell those to her. Within a few days, I started receiving orders for more sets from her neighbours and acquaintances. And I became self-employed!



For two years I was making jewellery from beads. I realised that this does not interest me a lot. I longed to do something creative. Then I remembered the crochet work that my sister-in-law did. I learnt a few different techniques and stitches via YouTube and started making and gifting a lot of crochet purses. I was still making beads jewellery, but the crochet purses gave me a lot of satisfaction. Along with jewellery, I also started receiving orders for purses. As a decoration, I started making small crochet flowers and sewing them on to the purses. These flowers gave me the idea of making hairbands with crochet flowers for little girls. Then I made tictac hair clips with crochet flowers. Step-by-step I started making complete crochet jewellery sets for little girls. When buying these sets for their girls, mothers would ask if I had anything for them as well. This pushed me into a full-fledged crochet jewellery maker.



Today's tip: Surround yourself with close friends!



And the main tip: Follow your passion!

Part 2 - Respect Your Own Product

English version below. मागच्या भागात मी तुम्हाला सांगितले त्याप्रमाणे मी self employed झाले. मैत्रिणींमध्ये दागिन्यांची विक्री सुरू झाली. आवडीने घेत होत्या सगळ्या. मग एकदा वाटले की आता आपल्या जवळच्या सर्कल बाहेर आपले दागिने आवडतात का ते बघितले पाहिजे. आपले घर, नातेवाईक, मित्रमंडळी आपला कम्फर्ट झोन असतात. ह्यांच्याशिवाय बाहेर माझे दागिने अनोळखी लोकांमध्ये विकले गेले पाहिजेत असे डोक्यात आले. तो खरा प्रतिसाद असणार होता मी बनवलेल्या दागिन्यांसाठी. त्या वेळेस प्रदर्शनाचा पर्याय समोर आला. त्या वेळेस दिवसभराची प्रदर्शने फार व्हायची नाहीत संध्याकाळी ५ तासाची असायची. घरचे सगळे आवरून स्वयंपाक वगैरे करून जाता यायचे. लहान मुलींकरिता बायका खरेदी करायच्या. पण मोठ्यांकरिता म्हणावा तसा रिस्पॉन्स येत नव्हता. डिझाईन्स वाढवली. हे डिझाईन मी घातले असते का असा पण विचार करून बदल केले. मला स्वतःला फार मॅचिंग गळ्यातले कानातले घालणे आवडायचे नाही. आणि एक दिवस अचानक मला माझ्या दागिन्यांसाठी एक मॉडेल मिळाली!!. हीच माझे दागिने घालून बायकांना सांगू शकते आणि त्यांना पटवून देऊ शकते की क्रोशाचे दागिने घातल्यावर कसे दिस...
